Shapes in Space is an independent design studio and workshop creating distinctive, design-led furniture and interiors. We work with people who care about creativity, craftsmanship, and making spaces feel genuinely special.
Founded in Manchester in 2019, our roots are deep in the city’s culture of music, art, design, and reinvention. We’ve shaped our practice in that same spirit: hands-on, unafraid to do things differently, and always pushing for something original.

In a world full of throwaway sameness, we create furniture that feels personal and considered. Every piece is designed in-house. We sketch, model, and prototype everything ourselves, combining thoughtful ideas with practical use.
Some pieces are flat-packed for convenience, but never at the expense of quality. Everything is made in small batches or to order, using durable materials, careful joinery, and a design approach that avoids trends and lasts over time. Whether it’s a shelving unit, a café counter, or a custom wardrobe, each item is built with care and intention.
Built on a Design Heritage
Shapes in Space is led by a designer–maker with a background in both contemporary furniture and large-scale installation art. Years spent designing and building for high-end interiors, art spaces, and unique commercial projects gave us a deep understanding of how materials, form, and space interact.
That experience feeds directly into our work today.

Manchester is at the heart of everything we do. It's a city that celebrates individuality, creativity, and graft, and so do we.
From early days working on installations in local art spaces to designing shop interiors for Manchester independents, we’ve always been part of the city’s creative fabric. Our furniture reflects that spirit: inventive, well-made, and full of character.
We proudly support fellow independents—cafés, bookshops, hotels, hair salons, artists, designers—people building their own space in the world. Shapes in Space exists to help make those spaces more beautiful, more functional, and more them.
